Brazilian energy transition: from where to where?

December 9, 2019

“Brazilian energy transition: from where to where?” was one of three events carried on by E+ Energy Transition Institute during COP 25 in Madrid, in December 2019. The IRENA director, Dolf Gielen, the CEO of PSR Energy Consulting and Analytics, Luiz Barroso, the senior consultant of German think tank Agora Energiewende, Philipp Hauser, and the executive director of Institute for Climate and Society, Ana Toni, as moderator, stressed the signs that Brazil has been considering options for the future of its power mix quite different from other countries with energy transition agenda.

The following questions addressed the debate: Where is the country heading? What can be done to ensure a sustainable and price competitive energy matrix, making the most reasonable use of its potential in various natural resources? How can the energy mix can be planned now for a low carbon future, avoiding choices that lead to stranded assets?
